Explanation

Modern periodic table-এর মূল ভিত্তি হলো electronic configuration। যে মৌলগুলোর outermost shell-এর electron arrangement একই রকম, তারা একই group-এ থাকে এবং তাদের chemical properties-ও সাধারণত একই ধরনের হয়। কারণ chemical reaction-এ মূলত outer-shell বা valence electrons অংশগ্রহণ করে। তাই configuration বুঝলে periodic table মুখস্থ না করেও অনেক property অনুমান করা যায়।
