Explanation

Periodic table-এ horizontal row-কে period এবং vertical column-কে group বলা হয়। আধুনিক periodic table-এ 7টি period এবং 18টি group রয়েছে। একই period-এ বাম থেকে ডানে গেলে মৌলের ধর্ম ক্রমশ পরিবর্তিত হয়, আর একই group-এর মৌলগুলোর ধর্ম সাধারণত কাছাকাছি হয়। Lanthanide ও actinide series আলাদাভাবে নিচে দেখানো হলেও এগুলো মূলত period 6 ও period 7-এর অংশ।

Example

Period 2 contains Li to Ne, while Group 18 contains noble gases such as He, Ne and Ar.
